In the midst of yet another COVID-19 lockdown, many people have once again taken to working from home.
A tech teacher and computer systems administrator is giving some tips and tricks to make sure the home office is as efficient as possible.
Kevin Andrews says issues with internet speeds and Wi-Fi connections are some of the most common complaints he sees as, chances are, internet speed at home will be slower than at school or work.
He recommends a website, Speed Test dot net, that can be used to check the connection and diagnose potential issues.
If all that checks out, there are other methods that can be used to improve the connection.
He says to work as close to the Wi-Fi router as possible.
If there’s only one router in the house, make sure it is as high up as possible, and in a central location.
Andrews says the number of devices connected to the router can impact speed as well, something which he has encountered in his own house.
He’s started using Wi-Fi extenders in his house.
In many cases, they can plug directly into will sockets and can boost the Wi-Fi connection in busier homes.
Such devices are available through major carriers like Bell and Rogers.
