The deadline for public input into a legislative review of the province’s Elections Act is fast approaching.
An All-Party Committee was formed to modernize the province’s elections legislation which was last updated 31 years ago.
Repeated calls for election reform heated up considerably following last winter’s provincial election—a prolonged process that was complicated by an outbreak of the Delta variant of COVID-19.
The sudden move from in-person voting to mail-in ballots was clumsy at best and resulted in court challenges and questions from the public about the legitimacy of the process.
The deadline for public feedback is Monday, January 31.
