Whether a controversial proposed waste to energy project goes ahead in Lewisporte or not, the town still has a major asset that they hope to develop.
Lewisporte was once known as the Gateway to the North.
The once-busy marine centre – the focal point of the Labrador marine service – went silent when the service base was transferred to Labrador in recent years.
That had an immediate economic impact on the town.
Synergy World Energy is proposing to develop a waste-to-energy facility on the east side of Lewisporte, and even if it does get the environmental green light, the port facility can still be developed says town councillor Perry Pond.
