Today marks what’s commonly become known as the Chinese New Year.
2022 rings in the Lunar Year of the Tiger, which is marked not only in China, but in other Asian countries as well, including Vietnam and South Korea.
The new year is often marked by visits with family, and celebrations can last up to 15 days, although COVID has put another damper on celebrations this year.
The new year comes with an emphasis on positive language and actions to help ensure good health, luck and prosperity.
The Tiger, considered the king of all beasts, is a symbol of strength and bravery.
Members of the local Chinese community are marking the occasion with time spent with family and many businesses are closed for the day.
