There’s been a shake up in management at Her Majesty’s Penitentiary.
A high ranking member of management at HMP was reportedly removed from the position on Wednesday. For privacy reasons, the Department of Justice could not confirm.
NAPE President Jerry Earle who represents corrections officers at the Pen, says the situation in corrections is troubling.
He says there are significant concerns in the corrections system in the province, and the corrections officers often bear the brunt of decisions made. The concern now is that of the seven full-time leadership positions in corrections, only three are now filled. “The situation is not getting better, it’s actually getting worse” says Earle.
Earle reached out to the Justice Department last April seeking a meeting on the issues in Corrections, but to date, has yet to secure a meeting.
He indicates he had to interject in an occurrence last Thursday night. “There are repetitive occurrences happening that we are pushing to get answers for” Earle tells VOCM News.
