Ottawa has announced $929,000 in funding to bring high-speed Internet to 528 homes in Labrador.
The service will be expanded to North West River and the Sheshatshiu in partnership with Labrador IT company Big Land Networks and the Innu Development Partnership.
They noted the federal investment was critical to hooking up the communities since there weren’t enough customers to make it financially viable for private companies to go it alone.
Asked when the remaining areas of the province can expect high-speed internet, Gudie Hutchings, the federal Minister of Rural Economic Development and MP for Newfoundland’s Long Range Mountains, said stay tuned.
She hinted there’ll be another announcement on that front in the coming weeks.
