Temperatures have dipped below zero in areas of the Metro, meaning the freezing rain is under way.
20-40 mm of freezing rain is the maximum expected, lasting until around midnight tonight, which may cause power outages and topple trees due to severe icing.
The Avalon, Burin, and Connaigre Peninsulas will see a mix of rain, freezing rain, and possibly ice pellets into Saturday night.
After the flooding last weekend, Meteorologist with the Gander Weather Office, Justin Boudreau, says it’s a juggling act to see if the water will rise to that level again.
He says they’re expecting quite a bit more rain than last time, so it’s a juggling act right now trying to figure out if the flooding was due to snow being down, combined with the frozen ground, or whether water levels were simply that high to begin with.
Meanwhile, the snow has started in Central and Western Newfoundland, and is expected to last through the night into Saturday.
