The province’s larges public sector union has launched a new campaign warning government not to privatize services.
The province is reviewing government assets, including NLC and Marble Mountain, and has launched what it’s calling “marine market sounding” to assess government-run ferry services on the island portion of the province.
NAPE President Jerry Earle says there has been a lot of speculation about the possible privatization of public services something the union says will be “a big mistake.”
Earle says privatization means costs will go up, services will decline and “good jobs will be lost.” He says while government has promised “big, bold solutions” to the province’s fiscal challenges, privatization is what he calls ” the same old, tired ideas that have failed time and time again.”
