The provincial government has announced $9-million in funding to support the hard-hit tourism sector as well as artists.
During Thursday’s live COVID briefing Premier Andrew Furey first announced the funding.
The money is being split into two programs: $7-million for the Tourism and Hospitality Support Program, and $2-million for the Artist Support Program.
Tourism and hospitality operators, as well as artists who were impacted by the sharp decline and business or professional opportunities between October 1 of last year to February 28 of this year are eligible to receive the funding.
The province has expanded the eligibility criteria for the Tourism and Hospitality Support Program, with between $2,500 and $15,000 available per business.
Artists who qualify will receive a one time payment of $3,000.
Both programs will open mid-month and close on March 15.
Premier Furey says 2022 Come Home Year did influence earmarking the money, but it wasn’t the only factor. It’s also about ensuring that businesses and artists who suffered losses over peak periods can survive.
