Tributes continue to pour in for the late Christopher “Abbo” Abbott, A.K.A. Buddy the Puffin, this time during Sportsnet’s broadcast of the NHL All-Star Weekend.
Hockey Night in Canada’s Ron MacLean spoke highly of Abbott, noting the connection the famed mascot shared with children across Newfoundland and Labrador.
He called Buddy a cultural icon in the province, going back to his days with the St. John’s Maple Leafs.
He said All-Star Weekend serves to celebrate kids’ fascination with the game of hockey, and Abbott himself stayed a kid right until the end.
Abbott, who embodied Buddy the Puffin since the early 90s, passed away earlier this week at the age of 51.
