The closing-off of a popular walking route through Churchill Square made it to the virtual floor of city council on Monday.

The area is at the east side of the Terrace on the Square complex, where a gate now blocks access to the stairs.

Deputy Mayor Sheilagh O’Leary raised the issue yesterday, noting she’s received a number of complainants on the issue. However, O’Leary believes she has a solution.

She says the city should acquire the land and access to it, incorporating it into the larger remodeling of Churchill Square.

O’Leary has asked city staff to convene a meeting of all property owners involved in order to reach some resolution to the matter.
