We now have more detail on that fuel spill off Newfoundland, and it’s not good.
The M/V Alaskaborg sustained damage to a fuel tank about 100 nautical miles southeast of Cape Race a couple of days ago and, turns out according to the Canadian Coast Guard, that approximately 30,000 litres of heavy fuel leaked into the ocean.
The vessel, which was headed to Rotterdam from Baie Comeau, Quebec, is now docked in St. John’s under direction from Transport Canada.
More information will be provided as it becomes available.
