Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Russia must continue to de-escalate its movements and presence on the Ukrainian border.
Trudeau provided an update yesterday on a virtual summit held with US President Joe Biden and other allies about the situation and the importance of finding a peaceful solution to Russia’s growing military presence on the Ukraine border, leading to fears of a possible invasion.
He says the west is standing firm together, and is ready to impose “severe costs, including sanctions” if Russia invades Ukraine again.
He reiterated that Canada is not seeking confrontation with Russia, but “we’re resolved to stand firm with the Ukrainian people’s right” to determine their own future.
