More efforts are being made towards recycling in Newfoundland and Labrador, but there is still a long ways to go.
That’s according to Derm Flynn, chair of the Multi-Material stewardship Board, who says that “thousands and thousands of tonnes” of waste get recycled in the province every year.
He says most construction materials stay here in the province for reuse, while things like aluminium, electronics, and plastics get shipped off to different markets around the world.

He says they work with agencies both locally and throughout the country to find markets for the materials recycled here.
He says it’s a an important process that is always a work in progress. He says they are interested in finding markets for all materials that end up at their sites.
