A series of original shadow puppet shows is coming to the LSPU Hall.
“The Kraken”, written by Darren Ivany, and “The Brass Button Man”, written by a slew of local artists, will be taking the stage in a couple of weeks, presented by the Resource Centre for the Arts Theatre Company. Both plays will be shown back-to-back, with a ten minute intermission in between.
The shows, directed by Dr. Jamie Skidmore, utilize folk tales to celebrate Newfoundland and Labrador culture.
The Kraken tells the story of the town of Pickled Capelin Cove, which is besieged by a Leviathan from the sea, forcing Beverley Rose and her pet sheep, Ba, to try and save the day. The Brass Button Man utilizes shadows and moving panoramas to tell the folktale of the Brass Button Man, a local legend from Burnt Islands, who haunts the local straight on foggy nights.
The shows will be going ahead on March 5th and 12th at 2 and 6 p.m., and on March 6th and 13th at 6 p.m. The March 5th and 12th evening performances will be livestreamed.
Tickets can be purchased on the LSPU Hall’s website or by calling the box office at (709) 753-4531 ext 200.
