An advocate for persons with disabilities is concerned about the process used by government to select representation on a board which will advice government on such issues.
Anyone interested in becoming a member of The Accessibility Standards Advisory Board would have to apply through the Independent Appointments Commission.
That body was one of the first acts of the Dwight Ball Liberals to seemingly take the politics out of government appointments.
However, the minister still has final say as to who gets in and who doesn’t, something which doesn’t sit well with the Consumer Organization for Persons with Disabilities.
Executive Nancy Reid says that amounts to the same process as in previous situations, where the minister had final say on who would get to be his or her advisors.
Reid says their concern is that the people who are most qualified may not be getting chosen.
