DFO will be holding outreach meetings to speak with fish harvesters on whether the maximum vessel length should be increased.
The policy has come under fire in recent years by fishers and industry representatives as the current regulation for insure harvesters is set at 39 feet 11 inches, while it’s set at 50 feet for the Maritime provinces.
Consultations will help inform DFO on whether or not the policy should be changed.
Seven sessions will be conducted on Zoom, running from February 21 to March 2 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. for different regions. Invitations will be sent via email.
To receive the invitations, fishers are asked to contact the DFO office in their area or visit DFO’s website.
