The bodies of Spanish sailors who died off our coast last week have been brought home.
On Sunday Alfredo Martinez, Spanish Ambassador, and Jean Pierre Andrieux, Honorary Vice-Consul of Spain, visited the province to repatriate the bodies of those who died and the surviving members of the vessel’s crew.
Deputy Premier Siobhan Coady greeted them on the tarmac on behalf of Premier Andrew Furey, who is currently isolating after being exposed to a positive case.
The vessel sank early last Tuesday morning on the 40th anniversary of the Ocean Ranger tragedy.
Ten bodies were recovered from the water before the search was called off and handed over to the RCMP. Three crewmembers survived.
