RCMP in the province are investigating four separate instances of drug impaired driving, one of which led to the seizure of suspected crack cocaine and prescription pills.
The first of the offences occurred on Friday when Burin Peninsula RCMP responded to a single-vehicle collision in Lamaline. The 32-year-old man who was driving had minor injuries and showed signs of drug impairment.
Then on Saturday, police in Benoit’s Cove pulled over a driver who showed signs of cannabis impairment and subsequently tested positive on a roadside screening device.
The next day at around 11:15 a.m., police in Clarenville responded to reports of an erratic driver. The 21-year-old woman was pulled over and a quantity of suspected crack cocaine, a variety of prescription pills, and open alcohol were found in the vehicle. The woman showed signs of impairment and resisted arrest.
Finally, on Monday Harbour Grace RCMP pulled over a speeding vehicle. The 18-year-old driver showed signs of cannabis impairment and tested positive on a roadside screening device.
All four of the drivers were transported to area hospitals for blood samples. Police are awaiting the results.
