Bay St. George RCMP say Steel Mountain Road has reopened, allowing traffic to be re-routed around a storm-damaged segment of the Trans-Canada Highway on the southwest coast.

Culvert replacement has been underway between Steel Mountain Road and Katarina Roxon Way, also known as the Stephenville Access Road.

But the bypass around the detour had to be closed earlier today after two transport trucks overturned in the area. One of the trucks had reportedly hit a house in St. Georges.

Police say the road has been cleared but they’re asking drivers to take their time going through the area.
