The official Opposition is sounding the alarm over the province’s skyrocketing gas prices.
Shadow Minister of Finance, Tony Wakeham, says the PCs have been calling for government to intervene on gas and home heating fuel prices even before today’s spike.
Wakeham is calling on government to reduce gas taxes, even if it is just temporary measures to help the people of the province through this tough period, as well as implementing a home heating rebate program.
He says they government really doesn’t have a choice but to step in.
He says government can choose to support the people of Newfoundland and Labrador by implementing a home heating reduction program and by writing the PUB to ask for a reduction in taxes. He says it may only be four or five cents, but it needs to be a reduction, instead of the continuous increase people are facing now.
