A couple of people suffered frostbite and a couple of teenagers were taken to hospital as a precaution but everyone who became stranded on the Lightning Express chairlift at Marble Mountain on the weekend is okay.
It took about 2 1/2 hours to evacuate the 40 chairs which carried about 220 snowboarders and skiers on Saturday with some having to rappel from as high up above the mountain as 60 feet.
Richard Wells, general manager of the resort, says when they summoned for help, an absolute army of people from all types of organizations turned up to lend a hand.
Firefighters, army groups, 9-Wing Gander, there was a ski patrol convention here at the time, search and rescue groups as far as Corner Brook, Steady Brook and Deer Lake…they came out in droves says Wells.
The hill is closed for the next couple of days as officials assess the situation and do the repairs.
