The City of St. John’s is introducing a new policy that will encompass its IT systems. It will be introduced at today’s regular meeting of council.
The city says while it has several IT-related policies, it does not have a comprehensive policy that covers all IT used by the city. The new policy will change that and give direction on several fronts such as data protection and acceptable technology use.
The policy, which will apply to all employees, council members, and other authorized people who use city IT systems, will require several existing city policies to be rescinded.
The move comes months after a massive cyber attack against the provincial government’s healthcare systems—shutting down resources for weeks and compromising the personal information of thousands.
