Marine Atlantic is keeping a close eye on ice in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.
Heavy ice has moved into the Strait of Belle Isle, forcing the cancellation of today’s Labrador Marine crossings by the Qajaq W between St. Barbe and Blanc Sablon.
Marine Atlantic’s Darrell Mercer says they’re watching the situation closely as the ice moves down into the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the Cabot Strait.
Mercer says right now their captains say ice hasn’t had a significant impact on Marine Atlantic crossings, but if the winds shift in the coming weeks that situation could change.
