It appears as though a plot hatched by the residents of Bell Island to bring a beloved physician back to the community has worked.

Back on February 18th, VOCM News first told you about The Bell Island Grand Seduction, a facebook page and community effort to try to bring Dr. Faris Ayar “back home.”

Wabana Mayor Gary Gosine says Dr. Ayar has agreed to return to practice at the local hospital on an eleven week locum, and they’re working hard to convince him to stay on a permanent basis.

The people of Bell Island have hatched a plot, not dissimilar to the story line of the 2013 film “The Grand Seduction,” to bring a beloved physician back to their community.

A Facebook page has been created to “bring Dr. Ayar Home.”

Dr. Faris Ayar went to Bell Island in 2013 and put down roots, drawing admiration and respect from the people of Bell Island who were devastated when he left the community last fall.

But, there are indications that Dr. Ayar would be willing to come back, which prompted area residents to put together a campaign to bring him back home.

Teresita McCarthy says they’re not afraid to put on a little pressure.

She says their hope is to encourage Dr. Faris Ayar to come back. “We know you love this community… so what’s keeping you?” she asks playfully.
