The Pentecostal Church in Wing’s Point has been destroyed by fire.
Chair of the local service district, Thomas Gillingham, confirmed the news saying that the structure has now collapsed into the basement.
He says the blaze was first noticed by someone driving by early this morning and about six different fire departments responded to the blaze.
According to Gillingham, the building was empty at the time and there were no injuries.
However, he says the weather made things difficult for fire crews.
He says it’s been very cold and their hoses have been freezing. He says the back spray has essentially turned the parking lot into a skating rink, making it difficult for crews to move around.
Gillingham says there is a fairly large Pentecostal community in the area, calling it a “terrific loss” for them.
