Calling the Health Accord another attempt at resettlement, mayors on the Burin Peninsula are speaking out against some aspects of the review.
People in many areas are jittery—fearful that medical services could be cut.
The Burin Peninsula Joint Council invites residents from Terrenceville to Greater Lamaline to a rally Sunday afternoon on the parking lot of the Peninsula Mall in Marystown.
There are three hospitals on the peninsula: Burin, St. Lawrence and Grand Bank, and Marystown Mayor Brian Keating says the Accord is talking about changes in ICU and other services.
He wants to show government that people on the Burin Peninsula will not stand for cuts. If people have to drive to St. John’s or Corner Brook for health care, that amounts to another form of resettlement and another form of taxation, he says.
The rally begins at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 20.
