Two groups of hunters have been detained and their snowmachines and komatiks seized as part of enforcement activities targeting poachers in Labrador.
Fisheries, Forestry and Agrifoods Minister Derrick Bragg made the announcement in the House of Assembly.
There is a ban on hunting of caribou in Labrador and officials are concerned about the possible extirpation of southern species due to continued pressure being put on remaining animals by hunters travelling in from Quebec.
The Independent Member for Lake Melville, Perry Trimper, questioned the minister responsible, Derrick Bragg, in the legislature.
Bragg says two groups were detained by Labrador enforcement officers after being found in possession of illegal caribou meat.
