There were no injuries after what’s being described as a “near-miss” on the Hibernia platform on Tuesday, March 15th.
The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board says the Hibernia Management and Development Company reported that workers were moving a crane when an 8 kg piece of the motor fell ten metres to the deck.
Officials say the incident would have been fatal had it hit a worker on the deck.
There were a number of workers in the area – approximately 11 metres from the place where the piece dropped.
HMDC immediately halted the gantry crane operations, and an investigation has been launched.
