One of two women accused in a violent crime spree at the TC Square in Carbonear this week will spend at least the weekend in jail.
The Crown opposed the release of 50-year-old Catherine Thorne of Victoria when she appeared in Harbour Grace provincial court on Thursday.
That prompted an outburst from Thorne, crying and expressing shock at having to remain in jail.
The matter was called again briefly on Friday but was promptly postponed until Monday.
The other woman charged in the case, 32-year-old Alyshia George of Old Shop, Trinity Bay, also appeared in court Thursday but was released pending her next court date.
George faces mostly theft charges, while the elder Thorne faces more serious charges, including assaults, death threats, causing a disturbance, and damages.
She was already facing unrelated charges, including arson and assaulting an officer.
The incident began around 2 p.m. Wednesday, forcing some stores in the mall to close, with staff shielding themselves inside.
Police say both women were arrested at the scene without further incident.
