A local meteorologist warns of an incoming weather system that will lead to a messy period, Sunday afternoon and evening across the island.
Mike Vandenberg, of the Gander Weather Office, says snow coming in over southwestern Newfoundland will ultimately impact the whole island.
He says there is a winter storm warning in effect on the west coast, expecting 15 cm of snow inland, combined with some “fairly stiff winds,” reaching 100 km/h.
As for the rest of the island, Vandenberg says that snow will transition to a mix of ice pellets, freezing rain and freezing drizzle.
However, there is an extended blowing snow warning on the Northern Peninsula, which could last a day or so.
Spring officially arrives today at 1:03 pm NDT / 12:33 pm ADT, but we have alerts in effect for various types of wintry weather set to affect to Newfoundland and Labrador.
