Police say everyone is breathing a sigh of relief after a missing child was quickly found safe this afternoon in the centre of St. John’s.
The RNC responded to the Blatch Avenue area shortly before 3 p.m. after receiving the report from the child’s caregiver.
Blatch Avenue runs parallel to Mayor Avenue, between Merrymeeting and Freshwater Road.
Within minutes, an RNC alert about the search had been retweeted hundreds of times.
After deploying multiple resources, including the K9 unit, officers quickly found the 22-month-old girl behind her home.
RNC spokesman Const. James Cadigan says it’s every parent’s worst nightmare, noting the panic can be traumatic.
“The moment you can’t account, the panic sets in,” he said.
Fortunately, he says, this incident came to a quick and successful resolution.
UPDATE – RNC patrol officers have located the child, and she is safe. We send our gratitude to our community for quickly assisting our efforts. #ThankYou
