Fire destroyed a cabin on the main road in Mahers early this morning.

Fire fighters and the Holyrood RCMP received the call around 5:00 a.m. Thursday morning.

The cabin is a total loss.

The Fire Commissioner’s office is investigating.

Firefighters are on the scene of a structure fire in the central Avalon this hour.

Fire broke out on the access road to Mahers, which is near Brigus Junction and Roaches Line, at about 5:30.

The Avondale Fire Department was first on scene, being joined by the Bay de Grave team a few minutes later.

Mahers is an area made up mostly of summer cabins.
