The provincial NDP are calling funding announced to reduce MUN’s greenhouse gas emissions “another good step”.
Yesterday, the provincial and federal governments announced $10.5 million dollars in joint funding for MUN to replace an oil-fired hot water boiler used to heat the campus with two new electrically-powered boilers, cutting emissions by 30,000 tonnes annually.
Interim NDP leader Jim Dinn says it’s a good step, but the province and Ottawa need to release a committed “just transition” plan so that workers know what their future will look like.
He says announcements like this prove that a just transition is possible, but that an overall plan is needed.
