The capital city is pushing ahead with its plans for this summer’s pedestrian mall.
Councilor Debbie Hanlon provided the update during Wednesday’s Committee of the Whole meeting.
She says the planning process is underway for this year’s event.
There will be a slight change in the dates for this year.
For the last two years, the mall has started on the first Friday of July.
However, because that date this year is July 1st, the mall will open a day earlier on Thursday, June 30th, and close on Monday, September 5th.
As well, Hanlon explains there will be changes this year to entertainment provided on the street.
Last year, they relied on various “Activation Stations” operated by non-profits, but she says there were various issues with those.
This year, if they can acquire funding, they are hoping to put off weekend busker events and concerts.
