A Harbour Grace woman originally from Ukraine is feeling the stress following a failed attempt to get her mother to Newfoundland.
Nadya Butt-Valychko’s mother was on her way, but got blocked at the airport in Berlin, Germany because she did not have a transit visa.
Nadya says it was a great disappointment after building herself up to see her mother again during what has been a very stressful time.
She says they managed to get her mother another ticket and she’s now scheduled to arrive in St. John’s on April 4, but in the meantime, her mother, who is now in Poland, has had a difficult time finding a place to stay.
Nadya says her mother had to leave the apartment in which she was staying because the owner was taking in family from Ukraine. She is now in a hotel room near Poznan from where she is scheduled to fly out on April 3.
