Today’s St. John’s City Council agenda includes a proposal to reinstate some fees associated with the city’s parklet program.
The city says the onset of the pandemic, combined with the introduction of the downtown pedestrian mall, prompted the waiving of fees for businesses applying to construct parklets.
In 2020 and 2021, waiving of fees cost the city an estimated $185,000 per year in lost revenue.
As health restrictions continue to be lifted, city council is considering reinstating two of the fees for the upcoming year—the building permit fee and parking space rental fee.
If approved, the cost of leasing an average parking space will be roughly $385/month.
Council meets at 3 p.m. today.
