Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 continue to climb.
The province is now reporting 40 hospitalizations due to the virus, with seven in critical condition.
That’s the highest level of hospitalization due to COVID-19 in Newfoundland and Labrador since the pandemic began.
Two more deaths were reported yesterday. There were 1,158 new confirmed cases of the virus reported in Newfoundland and Labrador between Friday and Monday.
Meanwhile, questions remain about whether or not the province should reintroduce some COVID restrictions to help stem the spread of the virus.
While symptoms are relatively mild compared to previous variants, isolation measures are prompting some people to re-consider their views regarding masking and a possible reintroduction of public health measures.
VOCM’s Question of the Day on Saturday indicated that 59 per cent of respondents would accept the reintroduction of whatever health restrictions are necessary to address rising case counts.
Health Minister John Haggie says Public Health was anticipating case counts to rise and it’s something they’re watching very closely.
He says time will tell in terms of what changes Public Health may need to make, but their modeling showed that case numbers could go this high, if not higher.
