A new non-profit organization has been formed on Bell Island to help address the state of healthcare.
They lost the last of the three doctors they used to have in December. One doctor has agreed to stay on as a locum, and there are hopes he can be recruited to stay.
Healthy Bell Island Inc is made up of former health care workers and others with a focus on advocacy, awareness and communication in addressing health care needs in the community.
Co-chair Patrick Craig says the group was formed in December.
He says they became alarmed with the availability of health care in the community and decided to take some action in having it addressed. They’ve already reached out to Eastern Health seeking action.
