For the first time in two years the cruise ship industry is returning to St. John’s.
The capital city says the first cruise ship of the season, the Ocean Endeavor, will arrive with 195 passengers on June 12.
In total, 30 ships from 15 different cruise lines will be docking in St. John’s Harbour between June and October.

The city expects that the level of activity for the 2022 season will be at 80 percent of what was seen in 2019. That year, they say the industry generated $10 million for the province.
The city says the cruise industry has one of the highest levels of COVID protocols of any industry.
Passengers and crew must show a negative COVID test taken 24-48 hours before boarding, and must be fully vaccinated. As well, there is a reporting system in place with the federal government for ships to notify of positive cases two days before docking.
After two years of suffering through a pandemic, Debbie Hanlon, Council’s Representative for Cruise Tourism says all the local businesses she has talked to are excited for the return.
