Dozens of newcomers attended a recent job fair hosted by the Association for New Canadians in St. John’s
Hediseh Khalilpourmeymandi, who has a masters degree in Safety and Risk Engineering from Memorial University, moved to the province from Iran just two months before the pandemic struck.
She calls those early months in the province ‘very difficult’ because she and her husband were unable to secure employment due to public health restrictions affecting local businesses.
Her husband is currently employed, but unfortunately it’s not in his field of study.
While Khalilpourmeymandi didn’t find any promising engineering firms to apply with, the search continues.
She likes the province’s nature and they’ve made some good friends, and she’d love to stay if she’s able to get the right job.
