A Ukrainian woman living in Harbour Grace welcomed the safe arrival of her mother from Ukraine Monday afternoon.

Nadya Butt-Valychko says she was overjoyed to finally see her mother again after what has been an extremely difficult time given the war back home.

Nadya says her mother is relieved to be safe in Newfoundland with her grandchildren, but the news from home keeps getting more and more disturbing and terrifying. Nadya’s sister and her family are still in Ukraine, while her father is in Poland.

She says word of the discovery of a mass grave in Bucha which is where her home and friends are from, is hitting them all hard.
