Newfoundland and Labrador is at or near the peak of the current wave of COVID-19.
That’s according to modelling cited by Health Minister John Haggie yesterday.
It shows the current caseload is below what was expected, particularly when it comes to the key metric of hospitalizations.
Haggie says the modelling suggests the province is at or near the worst of the current wave. But he says it depends on where the peak actually is, noting it is a model and could be off by a week one way or the other. It may be a situation, he says, where we won’t know we’re past the peak until we’re on the downside.
One possible sign of being on that downside is the number of health care workers in isolation. Haggie says that total has been cut in half, to less than 600, since late last week.
He says the province is also keeping an eye on other jurisdictions to make sure that “as the variant may change, modelling remains accurate.”
