The first-degree murder trial for Kirk Keeping has been postponed again.
Keeping was charged after the killing of his ex-girlfriend, Chantal John, in her Conne River home on January 9, 2019.
He’s also accused of trying to kill her mother and breaching a previous order to stay away from the victim.
The trial was set for last May but Keeping fired his Legal Aid lawyers two days beforehand, postponing it until May of this year.
In the meantime, Keeping applied for a private lawyer to be paid by the province, which was recently dismissed in Supreme Court. But he’s now appealing that decision, which the Crown admits won’t leave enough time for Keeping, or a new lawyer, to prepare for next month’s trial as scheduled.
It’s now set to begin on April 25 of next year.
