The Employers’ Council is concerned that the provincial government is spending about $250 million dollars over its expenditure target in this year’s budget.
Executive Director Richard Alexander says while that’s better than what they’ve seen in the last few years, it remains a serious concern.
That means increased debt servicing costs says Alexander, and will make it difficult for government to address the cost of living relief the public is calling for.
Meanwhile, NAPE President Jerry Earle is calling today’s budget a relief to those who were fearful it might include job cuts.
He says his members were pleased that instead of cuts to health care spending, more money is being put into the system.
