The province is marking Green Shirt Day and Organ Awareness Month in honour of one of the victims of the Humboldt Broncos bus tragedy in 2018.
21-year-old Logan Boulet was one of 16 killed in the tragedy. He had registered as an organ donor mere weeks before the accident. Logan’s decision helped save or improve the lives of six people through organ donation.
As a result, thousands across the country registered as organ donors, becoming known as the “Logan Boulet Effect.” To mark the day he became an organ donor, Logan’s family launched Green Shirt Day, to be recognized each year on April 7.
April 7th is #GreenShirtDay, a day we honour the lives lost and affected by the #HumboldtBroncos bus crash on April 6, 2018. Today, we wear green and encourage people to register as organ donors. Talk to your family about your wishes. 💚 pic.twitter.com/HYs8MzgWHh

In addition, April is recognized as “Be A Donor” month. While donated organs and tissues can help save lives, hundreds die each year due to a shortage of donations.
All residents in Newfoundland and Labrador have the opportunity to become organ donors by indicating your “Intent to Donate” when completing or renewing their MCP application form.
Minister of Health John Haggie encourages the public to discuss the topic with family when making such an important decision.
