Provincial Court judges are going to get their pay raise after all.
The Supreme Court recently ordered the provincial government to act on a report by a tribunal three years ago calling for an 8 per cent wage hike for judges over the period 2017-2021. Government did not act on the report, thereby effectively denying the 22 judges the increase in compensation.
Justice and Public Safety Minister John Hogan moved a notice of motion in the Legislature yesterday accepting all recommendations in the 2019 report of the tribunal, pushing their salaries to over $250,000.
The new compensation package will retroactively take effect on April 1, 2017.
