The province’s NDP has outlined a list of recommendations and opportunities toward what it calls a just transition for workers in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The party is launching a series of research points outlining the need to act now to ensure that workers in this province are at the forefront of a post-pandemic recovery.
St. John’s Centre MHA Jim Dinn says the province needs not only a climate plan, but a jobs plan that will put NL on the path to building a sustainable clean-energy economy.
Dinn says the province has less than three decades to make that happen and to protect the livelihood of workers and their communities.
The party recommends that subsidies for fossil fuels be redirected toward job creation in low carbon industries, that a plan be implemented for public investment in wind and solar energy, and that workers are supported with new training and education.
