The lifting of the ban on wind development in Newfoundland and Labrador means a significant amount of work now begins towards policy surrounding the development of potential wind projects.
There are serious questions about whether wind will complement or compete with hydro, how companies will transmit the power created and what markets they’ll be serving.
Energy Minister Andrew Parsons couldn’t say whether there will be a cap on wind production.
He calls one of the complicating factors the possibility of “cannibalizing” the system, although he believes there is demand for wind energy in the province, particularly on the coast of Labrador.
