Another town on the Avalon Peninsula is raising concerns about dangerous road conditions.
Harbour Main-Chapel’s Cove-Lakeview Mayor Mike Doyle says Point Road in Chapel’s Cove is washed out, and the guide rails are suspended in the air from the erosion.
The road borders the ocean, and Doyle worries that a vehicle driving at night could venture over the bank. He says the same thing is happening on Harbour Drive in Habour Main.
The issue has been plaguing the area for several years. Doyle says the Department of Transportation is aware and has made some fixes over the years, but after heavy rain, the situation re-emerges.
Doyle, a Canadian-registered safety practitioner, says the road isn’t being fixed to a level where it can be maintained. He says they’ve done all they can to remind the department of the situation. Now his main concern is public safety.
He says residents have gone out to put up pylons and barricades. The province also put up barricades that have since washed away. Doyle is urging the public to be careful in these areas until the roads are fixed.
